Trains, metros, and taxis across China
China's high-speed rail network is the world's largest and the best way to travel between cities. Trains are frequent, punctual, and comfortable; book tickets via Trip.com or the official 12306 platform. Note that the G and D trains are the fastest categories.
Inside cities, metro systems in major hubs are modern, cheap, and English-friendly. Most stations accept Alipay/WeChat QR codes or contactless cards. For convenience, ride-hailing with Didi works in both Chinese and English modes.
Taxis are plentiful but drivers rarely speak English — have your destination written in Chinese, or show it on a translation app. For longer journeys, domestic flights connect all major cities and are often comparable in price to first-class rail.
