Dalian, Liaoning province

A charming coastal city

Dalian, at the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, is one of China's most beautiful seaside cities. Its dramatic coastline — with Tiger Beach, Golden Pebble Beach, and the coastal road along Binhai Lu — offers some of the country's finest sea views, backed by hills covered in Japanese-style villas from its early 20th-century history.

The city's Russian and Japanese architectural legacy gives Dalian a distinctive European flavor. The Russian-style streets of the old quarter, the stately Zhongshan Square, and the historic hotels along the waterfront evoke the era when Dalian was a key port of the Manchurian railways.

Modern Dalian is a dynamic port and technology center, but its identity remains tied to the sea. Seafood is a way of life here — the city's bouillabaisse-style fish soup and grilled scallops are local icons. With its mild climate, clean beaches, and laid-back atmosphere, Dalian is a beloved summer retreat.
